Pay Range: Varies based on experience

 

Job Purpose

As a member of the company’s management team, the Controller’s primary purpose is to ensure that accurate and timely financial information is available to facilitate effective decision making as the company continues to grow and evolve. Carrying out this responsibility in our startup environment requires that the Controller engage in a wide spectrum of activities ranging from basic accounting functions to data-driven strategic planning.

 

Primary Areas of Responsibility

Core Accounting (40%)

Establish, monitor, and enforce all accounting policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP, including software capitalization and software revenue recognition

Record all transactions and account activity

Work with and provide information to external auditors for the annual audit

Ensure accounts payable and debt payments are paid in a timely manner and that all reasonable discounts are taken

Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly

Monthly account reconciliations and closing process

Maintain the chart of accounts and an orderly accounting system

Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings

 

Strategic Planning and Reporting (50%)

Provide financial analyses to management and the Board of Directors

Manage the production of the budget and forecasts in coordination with the management team to optimize resource allocation

Assist CEO in securing financing if needed

Developing and maintaining relationships with lending/financial institutions.

Issue timely and accurate monthly financial statements to management and their teams

Prepare quarterly reports for shareholders and the Board of Directors

Track and communicate key financial and operating metrics to the organization

Track variances from the budget and provide for a system of management cost reports

 

Human Resources (5%)

Work with outside HR firm to ensure regulatory compliance

Process payroll

Manage benefits administration in coordination with outside HR firm

Manage hiring process in coordination with hiring managers

 

Office Management and IT (5%)

 

Monitor office supply levels and purchase supplies and equipment as needed

Tag and monitor fixed assets

Ensure operation and security of equipment in coordination with outside service provider

Oversee IT security

 

Education + Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required in accounting.
  • 5+ years experience in accounting.
  • Knowledge and experience in accounting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Knowledge and experience in budgeting, financial forecasting, cost control, and resource allocation.
  • Experience in Human Resources and office administration.
  • Experience in data, analytics, and business intelligence.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work as a member of a team
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial statements.
  • Ability to communicate financial results to the Board of Directors.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment with fluctuating priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision and effectively manage tasks and time.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to details and ability to prioritize.
