Higher Learning Technologies (HLT) is accepting applications for contract writers with strong subject-matter expertise. Nursing experience with at least one clinical setting or client population is desired. This may include inpatient or outpatient clinical or therapeutic environments.  

Job Summary

Contracted writers will write, edit, or review nursing topics (articles) to be included in a comprehensive nursing reference product based on writing guidelines provided by HLT. Topic content focus areas include but are not limited to acute medical care, surgical care, ambulatory care, obstetrics, pediatric care, critical care, geriatric care, transitional and home care, community and public health, and end of life care.

Writers will research assigned topics using authoritative and widely accepted clinical reference sources in order to ensure content accuracy and clarity while adhering to the writing guidelines.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Write original items including nursing procedure tutorials, evidenced-based practice guideline,  how to perform a nursing assessment, or nurse teaching.
  • Writers demonstrating exceptional skill may be asked to perform peer review, edit, or revise items to meet provided guidelines.
  • Work is done remotely. Long-term writing opportunities may be available to contractors who demonstrate the ability to write superior topic articles.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Hold active nurse licensure (RN, LPN, APN)
  • Have experience in direct client care or care management
  • Possess excellent writing and editing skills and a good understanding of English grammar and punctuation
  • Be open to, and show the ability to learn from constructive feedback
  • Have 6–20 hours per week to devote to completing an assignment


  • A well-written topic takes approximately 2–6 hours to produce.
  • An hourly rate is provided at approximately $30/hour ($120 for a 4 hour topic). Total compensation per topic depends topic breadth and completion time.
